Ghostly Marbles

Last night in our ghost hunting we tried the marble flour test. We lightly sprinkled a tray with flour, set out 5 marbles in a star shape and left it alone...a few hours later one of marbles was moved 1 1/4 inches. If you look closely you can see the track of marbles path in the flour and also see a flour stripe on the marble. With only one marble being moved, this eliminated the chance of an accidental  moving of the tray (when all the marbles would have been moved). In further analyzing the whole situation, there is no humanly way a finger could have rolled the marble in the way it happened; i.e left a track in the flour and also have the flour adhere to the marble...

A Night at the Theater

Beardstown Opera House Investigation

Beardstown, population of approximately 8,000 people, lies on the banks of the Illinois River. Just a couple blocks away from the river the Beardstown Opera House was built in 1872, but its doors never did open. Mother Nature had other plans. She just about destroyed the place, which delayed the opening, to provide joy to all that entered.

However, the owners and volunteers were determined to rebuild it bigger and better than ever. And once the opera house was rebuilt, it played host to the thousands of people who were destined to see lives shows in the structure. These shows consisted of numerous circuses, theater troupes, vaudeville acts, community theatre groups and traveling evangelists-namely Billy Sunday on his Kerosene Circuit and lasted for over 140 years until the building fell into disrepair. During a period of time it was the largest opera house and the first theater to have been lighted with the electric bulbs west of Chicago.

One of the stunning architectural  features of the theater is its soaring grand dome towering 2 stories over the seating area. The first troupe to play the theater was General Tom Thumb, of P.T. Barnum fame. Its large freight elevator on the first floor was used to haul elephants and other animals to the second floor where the theater is actually located. The opera house also had a restaurant and speakeasy that was frequently visited by Al Capone. Tragedy also struck the theater in the early 1900’s when a young stage hand, high upon a ladder, tried to catch an apple that was thrown to him. The poor guy fell to his death.

In 2004, the opera house was purchased by the Beardstown Heritage Preservation Foundation, and the Foundation is restoring the building to its former grandeur. The building is currently being used for local productions, receptions/meeting and paranormal investigations.

Sean and D.W. spent the night in the Beardstown Opera House, and our investigation was led by Loren Hamilton, a very experienced paranormal investigator. Loren has been a paranormal investigator for over 10 years and does multiple investigations a month associated with the American Hauntings Tours. He has written one book on his experiences, with another in the works. Loren was also featured on the SyFy channel’s My Ghost Story Caught on Camera for his investigation of the Eldred House, in Eldred, Ill.

Our night at the Beardstown Opera House started with Loren and his partner, Jen, providing a tour of the building before letting us explore the maze of staircases, hallways and curious rooms on our own. Even without the standard paranormal activity, the structure is very creepy and unnerving, especially with a chill in the air-with no heat in the building. In addition to the theater on the second floor, there were also numerous dressing rooms and storage for the theater. The third floor above the dressing rooms is the site of the restaurant that was once housed in the building. The basement is now deserted, but it once housed the speakeasy.

Upon starting our investigations, we headed up to the stage area as this is reported to be one of the more paranormally active areas. We had quite active K2 readings up to orange for about and half hour; with the K2 responding to miscellaneous yes and no questions. The Ghost Box and K2 were also in sync, both spiking at the same time. On Ghost Radar, we also got the words: “circus” and “Sunday.” Sean finally discarded his ever-questioning skepticism when those two words appeared on the screen. It should be noted the in the over 2 years we have been using Ghost Radar, this is first time we have ever had the word “circus” pop up, or for that matter “Sunday.” Additional words that appeared on our Ghost Radar were “prepare” and “food.” At that point, we wandered through the rows of seats and hurried up the stairs off the main theater.  

Bare studs and holes in the floor held the area where the small restaurant used to be located, but it is now another storage room. Our flashlight responded with such accuracy to our yes and no questions. Our guides, who were sitting in the chairs below in the theater, could not believe the responses we got. D.W. also was able to detect a tingling sensation in his body right before the mag light turns on.

We descended down the leaning concrete stairs to the basement where the speakeasy was housed. Once there, beneath our feet was crumbling rocks and dirt and the rafters skimmed above our heads. As we set our equipment down on the gravel floor something happened for the first time ever — we heard someone breathing behind us. The K2 meter simultaneously lit up, reaching to the red light, the highest level possible. And, at the exact same time, the K2 and the breathing stopped in unison.

After flurry of activity, we took a rest on some couches in the back of main auditorium with Loren and Jen. They were pleased with the results we had been achieving. In the main auditorium we set up our mag light and digital recorder and just as we sat down to take a break, mag light came on and we heard an audible sigh. That made the second time that night. The next day, as we reviewed the digital voice recorder, we were so excited that we caught that sigh, our very first EVP! After further review, it seemed to actually be more of a gasp than a sigh. Before the end of the tour we decided to head back up to the stage.

On the Ghost Radar the name “Edward” appeared and we assumed that was the name associated with the stage hand’s death. For about 30 minutes we were able to carry on conversation with Edward, through the mag light. We also experienced a 10 degree drop in temperature in the area around the mag lite. Just 10 foot away from the flash light, the temperature was 10 degrees higher; 51 degrees vs. 41 degrees! As soon as conversation ended, the temperature in the area went back to 51 degrees. It was an exhilarating, but also draining experience. While up on the stage we also confirmed, through a series of yes and no questions, that he did indeed fall to his death trying to catch an apple.

After a while, things got grew silent in the building where there was no activity through any one of our devices or senses during the remainder of the night. Loren stated that the first few hours of a investigation are usually the most active, which could be attributed to amount of energy level being expended. Overall the evening was a huge success and we look forward to return trip to the Beardstown Opera House again. 

Lemp Mansion Investigation, St. Louis

The Lemp Mansion, purported to be the “most haunted place in America”,  was built in 1868 by St. Louisian Jacob Feickert. His son-in-law, William J. Lemp and his wife, Julia, moved into the mansion in 1876. In 1911, the house underwent major renovations including conversion of some space into offices for the Lemp Brewery, just next door. Before prohibition, the Lemp Brewery was one of the largest breweries in the country and is where the Falstaff beer brand originated.  Someone from the Lemp family lived in the house until 1949, when Charles Lemp committed suicide. His suicide was the last in a series of many tragic Lemp family events and the 3rd Lemp family suicide at the mansion. Here is a link for more info on the mansion’s history:

We had the pleasure of ghost hunting in the Lemp Mansion on Sean’s Birthday! We had about an hour and a half in the mansion, with some pretty incredible events happening. The first occurrence happened to Sean while we were waiting for our tour to start; Sean was having an adult beverage and he felt a strong tug on his shirt, like he had spilled his drink on his shirt. But upon feeling his shirt, it was completely dry.  At the same time, words on Ghost Radar came up: may, dropped, highest, mean and toy. Some of these words would also seem to make more sense as we learned more about the mansion’s history and haunting activity. 

One exciting part of our investigation was that it included an infrared video camera for each of us to use. Our tour started with our guide, Rivika, taking us up to the 3^rd floor, which was originally the servants’ quarters and attic. The 3^rd floor is also the most active part of the mansion.  The 3^rd floor reputedly also housed the illegitimate and mentally handicapped son (named Zeke) of William Lemp Jr. for his whole life. Rivika told us that Zeke is the most active entity of the mansion and is very mischievous-he likes to “mess with guests.” He also likes to move objects around, especially toys. On the 3^rd floor we were able to capture with the infrared camera: lots of orbs, an audible moan, and a couple of shadow apparitions; one of which we believe to be Zeke, since the shadow appeared after we asked for Zeke to appear. Zeke was quite active for a few minutes with lots of orbs present, Zeke’s shadow apparition also floated across a painting, peaked out from behind door and danced up down.

On the 2nd floor we were able to see the blood stain from Charles Lemp’s suicide on the floor with the infrared camera.  On the second floor we saw lots of orbs; they seem to be very attracted to Sean! We also recorded a low moan in William Jr.’s room. Maybe just coincidentally,  but when we asked for any entity to show themselves, an alarm went off in one of guest rooms and we recorded orbs floating around the alarm. Also on the second floor, Rivika and D.W. both experienced a perceived change in the barometric pressure-with both of us getting a headache or shortness of breath.

Going down to the 1st floor, the K2 meter and the ghost box immediately went off at the same time when we reached 1^st floor stair landing. We checked, and no electrical outlet or wires were causing the K2 meter to light up. As we then moved down to the basement, the K2 continued to be lit up, as if the entity was following us around.  At one point, the K2 stopped any reading of activity. The basement was basically pretty quiet except for the K2 going off again on the stone steps leading to the outside. It is interesting to note that when we went back up to main level stair landing, the K2 did not light up in the same spot it did previously.

Overall it was a very exciting investigation and we would go back again. It was very cool to purchase the infrared video and review our investigation. And we are now looking into purchasing our own infrared video camera for our next investigation; November 1 at the Beardstown, Ill Opera House!  As side note, when I started to write up this VAPR blog post, I had the Ghost Radar turned on and the word “vapor” appeared…. 

This Summer on Virginia Avenue

Our home continues to be a hot spot of activity. There are times both Sean and I just feel the presence of activity around us. Back in June we had a kitchen fire and we wondered how our “house guests” felt about the situation and also about having a cleaning crew around for 3 weeks. Words on the Ghost Radar were: fire, kitchen, floor, new, smoke, stove, clean, work and slow (which describes how fast they worked…). We also had a very active K2 reading outside on the patio a few weeks with the light indicators hitting orange and red for over a 30 minute period. We basically had conversion with an entity and discover he was a male, worker from years ago. We also had the flashlight turn on last Saturday night at the same time when we noticed a lot of activity on Ghost Radar…just letting us know we were not alone.

Holiday Haunting 2012

We have had a very busy week of paranormal activity around our house. Early this week, we had guests staying with us for a few days for the holidays and the subject came up about our ghost hunting activities. And our guests strongly objected to our paranormal activities, and said emphatically that all such activity was from the devil and demonic related and that we were playing with pure evil. I said that we had never felt threatened in any way concerning our paranormal activities-only maybe a little unnerved at times or had us just shaking our heads at the experiences. The guests then stated that they preferred we not do any paranormal activities while they were there…

Later that evening with our guests, while we were all downstairs watching a movie, we heard a loud noise up in the kitchen-which sounded like a shot gun going off. Sean and I raced upstairs to find glass shards all over the kitchen. An empty glass Pyrex casserole dish had literally exploded from its position on the stove top. It did not break; it was shattered into thousands of pieces. The stove was not on, the glass was not hot…and this is the Pyrex that can be put into the oven to heat up to 500 degrees!  At the same time, we had ghost radar running and the words were: Jimmy, Boy, heat, satisfied, go, away….We told our guests that dish fell on the floor and broke…we did not tell them that we think that “Jimmy” was telling us he was displeased with our guests saying our paranormal experiences were demonic in nature and that “Jimmy” wanted them to “go away”….

My boys and a friend (all believers in the paranormal) then came down for the weekend and last night we had some pretty crazy happenings…we got out the K2 meter to see if could get some readings and we immediately picked up activity in our living room and ghost radar picked up the words: Jimmy and play. As we were sitting in the living room and inviting “Jimmy to play/hang out with us”…we distinctly heard 3 words whispered: “get the dogs” (with none of us making a sound) and about that time our dogs come into the room. We then experienced a very strange odor-kind of electrical ozone odor which we then followed around the house which matched the heightened K2 actively. We tried to pinpoint the smell to logical sources (i.e. the oven, fireplaces, heating vents). But the odor moved around the house….as quick as the odor appeared, it suddenly disappeared as did the K2 activity….

Talmage: The Classic Rock Music Listener and Liker of Short Hair

Last Friday evening while waiting for my son Jeff and his buddies (Ben Fletcher and Nick Howell) to arrive from Columbia,  Sean and I mentioned that we had not been on Ghost Radar in a while, so we turned it on and got immediate hits of words like: music, listen, change, attention, trim and hair among many others. While relaxing and having our favorite holiday cocktail (vodka and cranberry ginger ale!) we also turned on one of our favorite satellite music channels (839: flashback/new wave) in the kitchen and out in the living room; the house was festive with music playing,  the tree lit-up and holiday candles burning! Sean went upstairs for minute and I noticed that the music changed in living room to channel 833: classic rock. I just assumed Sean had changed it. But before he got back down to kitchen, I noticed the music was back on 839: flashback/new wave, then it switched back and forth another couple of times. I thought Sean as really messing with me!  When he got back to kitchen I asked him about changing the channel and he said he had not and I just kind of shook my head in amazement (still thinking Sean was messing with me).  As we sipped our drinks, the music changed back to 833: classic rock and this time Sean heard it change. Over the next few minutes we heard it change a couple of times back and forth between channels. Sean and both looked at each other and commented that we “must have visitors tonight!” I then said to Sean I was going to ask “our visitor” to change the music again as I enter the living room and sure enough, the music changed as soon I entered the living room. Over the next few minutes the music would switch channels when Sean or I entered living room. We then asked Ghost Radar who was with us, the word “Talmage” came up. We told Talmage it was cool that they were with us this evening, glad they liked music and also glad they got our attention by switching the music channels!  A few minutes later Jeff, Ben and Nick rolled in….Ghost radar posted “Jeff” just about the time Jeff arrived. As an FYI, the music on the living room receiver has not switched to another station again after we told Talmage it was cool to hang out with us…Update and a footnote to our experiences with Talmage....twice now our beard trimmer has been "reset to a setting of 1" neither Sean nor I use a "1" setting. On Saturday before we were all going to Zoo, I was going to just trim the hair on my temples a little and I thought it was on a 4 setting; without looking I started to trim away and to my horror, it was on a 1 setting. I had to shave my whole head to even it out...everyone says they like it short (the shortest I have had it since Kindergarten!). But we did not think anything about the trimmer and the paranormal until this morning when Sean started to trim his beard and was positive it was "number 4 setting".  But after getting started trimming his beard he quickly noticed that the trimmer was set back at a "1 setting" again...looks like maybe Talmage likes short hair and beards...This is all pretty crazy when you look at the original Ghost Radar words from Friday evening...

Next Door Neighbor’s Apparition and Mail

Our neighbor to north of us on Virginia Avenue, passed away a year ago in the summer-right before we purchased the empty lot (between our house and the neighbor’s house) from he and his wife. She recently moved to a retirement facility and we still pick up the yard and look after the house for her. Two weekends ago, Sean and I were mulching/doing yard work in our front yard/side yard and Sean went over to pick up newspaper circulars on their front porch and check the mail box.  At the same time, sometime caught my attention out of the corner of eye-I noticed what looked to be our deceased neighbor standing in their front yard, looking over at me working. As I turned to look closer, the apparition disappeared and cold shiver went down my spine. When Sean walked back, I mentioned to him about seeing our neighbor’s apparition. Then Sean looked at mail he had picked up and there was personal letter addressed to our deceased neighbor…15 months after his death….

Private Residence-South St. Louis County Investigation

We were attending a fall party/bonfire at a friend’s house in South St. Louis County last Saturday night when the subject came up about strange occurrences in the house: shadows, strange noises, cold spots, and pictures being turned over. So we decided to do a quick investigation using Ghost Radar.  We immediately got hits and words on the radar as we moved from room to room upstairs. Words included: distant, quiet, sensitive, whisper, Indian, Mexican, and Spanish (the area was first settled by the French and Spanish), wife, bed, secluded, further, deception, photograph. As we moved from room to room, my phone being used for Ghost Radar stopped working/froze-up. When I powered back up, the date/time now displayed January 5-5:04 pm. I powered down and back up again and now the date/time was now August 24 8:07 pm. As I proceeded to power down and back up the dates displayed on my phone were only: January 5 and August 24 (not the correct date/time of October 6, 11:15pm.). With my phone now completely frozen, we concluded our investigation and began to talk with the owners of home-which revealed some very interesting information which we did not know before we started our investigation. The owners (our friends) shared that the 2 dates that my phone was frozen on were important to their relationship: January 5 was when they were introduced a few years ago and August 24 was when the husband had found out about his previous wife’s infidelity. Also the pictures that were being turned over were only of his new wife….It was not until we got home, that my phone would power down (not be frozen on a date/time of January 5) and the correct date/time (now October 7, 1:12 am) was restored. Also the record of the spoken/recorded words on Ghost Radar had been wiped clean-as if our investigation had never occurred….

DeMenil Mansion-St. Louis

DeMenil Mansion-St. Louis

We had the pleasure of attending a wedding at the DeMenil Mansion (which is right next to the Lemp Mansion) a few weekends ago. The DeMenil Mansion pre-dates the Civil War and has a very interesting history as does the area in which stands. The DeMenil Mansion sets atop of the Cherokee Cave, though there is no open entrance to the cave today. The Mansion its self is said to be very haunted and a lot of strange and unusual paranormal things have gone on there over the years.

While we were on the grounds of the DeMenil Mansion for the wedding, ghost radar was very active that night, words spoken: Indian, Mississippi (you can see the river from the grounds), cave, music (2 bands played at the wedding and dance), moon (beautiful moon that night), flame, beer (the Mansion is next the Lemp Brewery complex). It was a very enchanting evening until the stars/moon and surrounded by all the history and paranormal activity!

Using Ghost Radar

We have been doing a lot of Ghost Radar lately.Ghost Radar seems to follow our every move for example:

·         Making homemade ice cream and the words were: ice and salt; at work the word police came up when a police car was sitting outside and the craziest of all...the word snake came up right before we discovered a snake in my  office at work....

·         At 1000 Hills State Park: water, lake, paint, rock and Indian (we had just looked at the 2000 year old Petroglyphs); also: nice dogs (we had our 3 dogs with us)

·         Last night: rain, storm, strong, light (just as a thunderstorm hit)

·         When we were outside finishing our brick planter: flower, pretty, old  brick (it was made of 100 year old city brick)

·         We also have been hearing  “pinging noises” in the evening while downstairs in the family room; the words tha pop up are: ping, notice, attention, fast, home, noise

·         Today when I was posting pics on Facebook about going to STL BeerFest yesterday: camera, picture, Germany, beer, fair

And just as I was finshing this blog the word "write" came up....

Investigation: More at Virginia Ave./Sweet Dog

A few days ago we had a very active investigation; upon starting our investigation (asking if any entity was present) the K2 immediately spiked to yellow orange. We let the identity know it was welcome to hang out and watch TV with us. The Ghost Radar got active and mimicked the action on TV. One of our dogs (we have 3 dogs: 2 Boxers and Jack Russell Terrier), Emerson, the one year old Boxer, was sitting with his head in my lap and I was stroking his head and scratching his ears.   I was also telling him how great and how "sweet a dog"  he was. At the same time the Ghost Radar picked up 2 amazing words: "sweet dog". It seems our entity  was watching what I doing and saying, and parroting  back my words;  or the entity feels the same way about Emerson, he is Sweet dog"!

Morse Mill Hotel Investigation

Sean and I had a fantastic experience a couple of months ago at Morse Mill Hotel (as featured on SYFY’s Ghost Hunters)! Our first experience happened when Sean received words on his ghost radar application on his phone. He walked around the grounds of the hotel and was gone for several minutes. Incidentally, I asked Tiffany some of the prevalent names that we may find in the hotel. Edward was one of them, unaware to Sean. When Sean returned from his walk around, Tiffany and Cody asked if he picked up anything. Sean stated yes and proceeded to show us the words. The name “Edward” was on the list. Edward lives in the basement dungeon and introduced himself as tall, German, he dealt with money and accounts and we believe he may have been a slave trader overseeing the slaves.

Our tour split up into two groups and we went into the hotel around 9 pm. After several hours of no activity for our group (the other group was having some incredible experiences already), we then, after switching a few people around groups, had one of scariest events of the night that happened when we were coming out of the attic blue room (the mean man in the attic’s room-with a feeling we need to leave ); an unexplained crash of glass from a window falling on second floor and then the “mean man in the attic” opened the door to the blue room as a group of us watched; this went on for 20 minutes and at one point was captured on tape by Tiffany.

Sean and I experienced the pressure on the blue room door (from the other side of the door) as the “mean man in the attic” forced the door open several times. Throughout the night, we had crazy K2 meter conversations with “Johnny, William and the prostitute”. “Johnny” was very active on the K2 meter answering questions and he gave us an audible “yes” when we asked if that was his name; he also talked about his pet dog; and that his mother killed him; Johnny told our group it was time for to leave and said “later” on the ghost radar.

The prostitute on the first floor was very active on the K2 answering questions and she (or he) on told us on the ghost radar they were was going to give an “experiment chest massage (for) somebody”. William was very active on K2 and also told us on the ghost radar he was “excited” we were there.

“Edward” also killed Sean’s cell phone to the point it would not recharge until we got home.Also around 3 a.m., we heard the whining and yelping of the “ghost dog” up in the attic and a light orb running down the 2nd floor hallway; with running footsteps heard on the first floor.

Sean also got picture of a face in the 2nd floor SW corner window. We also met the campground (across the road) ghost “Drew” with his footsteps and shadows and words on the ghost radar. We will be back and plan to bring my sons for the adventure!

Also skeptics stay home…you can ruin it for everyone. We had one lady in particular who Sean and I call the “Woman with the black cloud” who gave off negative energy the whole time and killed everything for us ( experienced nothing) until we broke away from her…she never did see/sense anything all night; she and her son left in a huff round 2am.

Investigations at Our House on Virginia Avenue

Sean and I live in one of oldest areas of St. Louis, the Carondelet area; which we settled in the early 1700’s by the French, German and Spanish settlers. The area was also home to Native Americans, as it is at the confluence of the River Des Peres and the Mississippi; at this confluence e of rivers was the site of one of the earliest forts in the area.  The early also housed one of first forts/outposts in the St. Louis region.  The houses in our neighborhood were built anywhere from the early 1900’s, to the 1940’s, our house is only 5 years old (2 story row house, brink front made to blend with the historic neighborhood).  Our house (plus our vacant lot next door) is built on a lot that witnessed a tragic arson house fire 20 years ago. A young man was mad at his mother over a family situation and he started her house on fire which burned to the ground and also the house next door (our vacant lot) to the ground. I mention this history of the area as a backdrop for the paranormal activity we regularly experience at our house.

Over the last few months we have conducted multiple investigations using the K2 meter, mag flash Light and Ghost Radar. The following highlights our investigations. Many of the words that have come up on during our investigations on Ghost Radar relate to the history of the area: fire (while walking around the empty lot), native, Indian, German, Spanish, military, gun, rifle, fort, French, trader.  A few weeks ago we had a very active investigation while my son Chris was down for the weekend. Upon starting our investigation (asking if any entities were present) the K2 immediately spiked to red; which corresponded to the mag light turning on and off in response to questions. This “conversation” went on for about 20 minutes. After we sensed that the identity was going quiet, we let the identity know it was welcome to hang out and watch TV with us. As usually is the case, the Ghost Radar got active and mimicked the action on TV; with words like: bear, acre and woods appearing.  Many times the Ghost Radar matches the contest of what is happening on TV i.e.  German (Nazi Movie), Russian (plot set in Russia). Our house seems to be a very active portal for the coming and going of entities; many if which seem to be associated with the history of our neighborhood.

Investigation: Private Residence-Columbia, MO

On Friday evening, September 16^th, a group us (Sean and D.W.; my son’s: Jeff and Chris) investigated a private residence in Columbia.  The residents of the private home have purported to have seen a series of shadow figures and heard footsteps in basement and other areas of the home. The residents and many guests of the home report that basement is one area they don’t like to enter alone at night. The home was built in the 1960’s with no known deaths or other strange occurrences on the property. Immediately upon entering the basement area we all had a strange feeling with the hair on the back of our necks standing on end. Baseline K2 readings (which were flat) were taken in pool table room (where most of unexplained activity has been felt). We decided to do a K2 session and also attempt to contact the entities with the flashlight test. The flashlight came on when we asked the entity to show its presence (and it turned off on command), the K2 spiked. The Ghost Radar showed a "red" (the highest) radar hit with words on the Ghost Radar: present, occur and cage. D.W. and Chris observed the flashlight moving slightly right before it turned on. All four of us also saw the pool table light slightly swaying after the K2 spike. We also experienced a sudden cold spot and also a light movement behind our backs. The other amazing occurrence that we all four saw was a light orb at the far end of the room moving up and down and side to side, for a brief period of time.  Once again it was amazing to have the flashlight turn on and off, on command; and to have the Ghost Radar and K2 spike at the same time. But the light orb was most “hair-raising event of the evening”. We are all still processing what we experienced….

Investigation: Stephens College-Senior Hall

Legend has it that Sarah Jane Wheeler, a student at Columbia Baptist Female College (the name of the college before it became Stephen’s College), after seeing her lover, a Civil War Confederate soldier shot by Union Troops occupying Columbia, hung herself from the rafters of Senior Hall. The ghosts of both Sarah and her lover are said to haunt Senior Hall and also the grassy quadrangle in front of Senior Hall.

On Friday evening, September 16^th a group us (Sean and DW; my son’s Jeff and Chris; and their friends: Issac and Ben) investigated the area around Senior Hall on the Stephen’s College campus. Knowing that Senior Hall would be locked, we concentrated on the grassy quadrangle in front of Senior Hall. Immediately upon entering the quad, we got hits on the Ghost Radar, which had be silent all evening since arriving in Columbia.  We decided to do a K2 session and also attempt to contact the entities with the flashlight test. The flashlight came on when we asked the entity to show its presence (and it turned off on command) the K2 spiked and some of the words on the Ghost Radar included: grass, gun, dirt. The word “Edward” also appeared. We are not sure who Edward is; maybe he was the Union Solider who shot Sarah’s Confederate lover…. It was amazing to have the flashlight turn on and off, on command; and to have the Ghost Radar and K2 spike at the same time. It should also be noted that the flashlight, K2 and ghost Radar went silent as soon as 3 Stephen’s Students started watching our actions with interest from a distance on the steps of the residence hall on the west end of the quad.

Parker House Hotel Investigation

A few weeks ago Sean and I were in Boston and took the Boston Ghost Night Tour. Our first stop was at the famed Parker House Hotel (the oldest continuously operating hotel  in the US), the most haunted hotel in New England since opening its doors in October of 1855, the third floor is said to be a hotspot of paranormal activity. Charlotte Cushman, a renowned 19th century stage actress, died in 1876 in her room on there. One of the elevators is said to often travel on its own to the third floor, even when no buttons are pushed. And then there is Room 303, where, the story goes, a businessman killed himself in 1949—and where countless sightings have occurred since, from disembodied voices to the smell of cigar. The legend of Room 303 is the basis for the Stephen King short story: 1408 (and the movie). Subsequent guests and staff reported the smell of whiskey and raucous laughter and creaking of rocking chairs. Extending beyond the haunted floor, some guests have reported seeing Harvey Parker, the hotel's founder, in their rooms asking about their stay. Mr. Parker died in 1884. To this day, it is said the ghost of the hotel’s original owner, Harvey Parker, wanders the halls and walks through walls, asking guests if they’re happy with their stay. Other apparitions abound, too, some of them as far up as the 10th floor or on the Mezzanine.

Sean and I were part of small group of 6 people including, Jim Denton from the RTS Paranormal Society of Massachusetts.  We did a K2 and Ghost Radar session on the Mezzanine. The Mezzanine has seen a lot of activity include full body apparitions, ghostly images in minors and muffled voices including those of children. As we walked up the stairs to the Mezzanine level, we immediately got spike on the K2 as we entered the Mezzanine level.  The we then got a spike on the K2 when asking questions related to if anything was with us on the Mezzanine; we also got the following words on the Ghost Radar at the same time: “exist and doll”.

Boston Common-Site of the Hanging Tree/Great Elm

The same night around 10:00 (on a cool rainy and foggy evening) we visited Boston Common (the oldest city park in the county) . The site of the Hanging Tree/Great Elm on Boston Common was used a gallows up until 1812. Hundreds of people (even child and one dog) were hanged for crimes and four people for witchcraft. The Great Elm stood until 1876, when it was destroyed in a storm. Our session included a flashlight test, K2 and Ghost Radar. We did get some amazing results! The flashlight came on when we asked if there was an someone present  to show its presence (and it turned off on command) , the K2 spiked and some of the words on the Ghost Radar included: court, law and judge.
